OUR MISSION

A praying church impacting the world through Jesus Christ.

We believe in what Jesus said when he gave His disciples the charge of the Great Commission. Through Jesus and prayer, our hope is to reach the lost and impacting the world through Him. Our vision is to impact the world for Christ by:

  • Evangelizing the lost
  • Discipling the believers
  • Equipping the Church
  • Ministering to society

Burt Avenue's Core Values

Prayer: We believe that prayer is essential in maintaining a personal relationship with God.  Not only is it essential, but it is a huge foundational piece in what we believe. You can't have a good relationship without good communication. Prayer is our communication to our Lord and Savior.

Spirit-led Worship: We are a church that cherishes authentic, heart-driven worship. Whether that worship be through song, testimonies, dramas and plays or other forms of worship, it must be done with a heart after God. We are passionate in allowing the Spirit to lead us as we worship and follow His leading.

Equipping believers for Godly leadership: We are a church that sees the potential in people and facilitates them in discovering God's design for their life and contribution to His kingdom. We believe that God's design was for every believer to participate in serving and building the church. We are a church that believes that growth comes from great leadership and we are willing to help equip new believers with the tools to make great leaders in the church.

Lordship of Christ:  We are called to surrender our lives and center them around Jesus Christ.  At Burt Avenue Wesleyan we strongly urge people live their lives through the perspective of Christ-centeredness.  The mission of our church is to lead people into a growing relationship with Christ.  We strongly encourage, teach, and promote living the Christ-centered life as part of that growing relationship.

Spiritual Mentoring & Development: At Burt Avenue Wesleyan we don't believe in letting our brothers and sisters in Christ walk the Christian road alone. We believe in walking alongside each believer, mentoring and discipling, intentionally looking for ways to nurture and develop them in the faith and helping them to grow their relationship with Christ.
We need to create self-awareness for people to discover their ministry by inspiring and assisting people in discovering their calling, personality, gifts, and ministry.  We must develop teams where people are encouraged, developed, and mentored while intentionally looking to identify and train leaders who are motivated to train and equip other leaders.

Connecting People Through Fellowship: We value community and we love to fellowship with one another. Whether that fellowship be a prayer service, community dinner, Bible study, connections are an important part of our ministry. It helps to build relationships and allows us to become stronger as a church body.

Family Ministries: We believe that families are important and we aim to serve all families, from the youngest to the oldest. From nursery to grave, we want to be able to reach and teach everyone, young and old, about the Lord Jesus Christ.

Relevant Message of Holiness: God, who is holy, calls us to a life of holiness.  We believe that the Holy Spirit seeks to do in us a work of grace, called by various terms including "entire sanctification" and "baptism with the Holy Spirit" - cleansing us from all sin, renewing us in the image of God, empowering us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves, and producing in us the character of Christ.  Holiness in the life of believers is most clearly understood as Christ-likeness.

Ministering Congregation: Though we believe that God has called the pastor to lead and direct the church, we don't believe he is the only one who can minister to others. God gives us all gifts and talents and we believe He has equipped each one of us with the ability to reach out and minister not only to those in our congregation, but also in our community and our world. We believe that the great commission applies to all of us...not just the pastor.

Culturally Relevant Worship & Evangelism: What was once effective yesterday, may not be effective today in reaching lost souls for Christ. Sometimes to reach a new generation you have to be able to relate to them. For instance, when it comes to worship, we love to worship with contemporary songs, yet we can't deny the hymns of old that were so foundational in our faith. We must be able to reach the lost in a way that is relevant to them, without watering down or sugar coating the message of Christ. Our ministry focus is to keep re-evaluating and come up with new and personal ways to reach lost souls without compromising God's message.
